10.2024 KUADRC - ABATE event at DSI

As the life expectancy of people with Down syndrome has increased, there are some unfortunate challenges associated with aging for our community – including Alzheimer’s disease. In fact, Alzheimer’s disease impacts close to 90% of people with Down syndrome, with the average age of diagnosis around 50 years of age.*  This is why we are partnering with KU Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (KU ADRC), an NIH Center of Excellence, to spread the word about the clinical programs, research studies, and clinical trials they have available specifically for people with Down syndrome.

Attendees will learn about the increased risk of Alzheimer’s disease in people with Down syndrome, including the reasons why they are at such a high risk. Additionally, we will discuss current and future treatment options. Followed by a Q & A session.

*According to Research by KU ADRC

Reminder: This event coincides with our 18+ Halloween Party (from 6 – 8 pm) for our free/donor-funded Social & Skill-building Program! You are welcome to bring your loved one/adult with Down syndrome to enjoy this event! BE SURE TO REGISTER BELOW!
