Ensuring your loved one has the financial resources required to meet his or her needs without jeopardizing eligibility for government-provided supplemental benefits can be a challenge for any family. An even greater consideration will be what happens to your loved one’s financial situation when you’re gone or unable to help manage it.

Arcare, a partner organization of Down Syndrome Innovations, has expert services to address these concerns and Executive Director, Laura Pederzani, is ready to share vital information to help all of our families.

Speaker Bio: Laura Pederzani is the Executive Director of Arcare. Laura has been working in the community as a nonprofit leader, community outreach specialist, and paralegal specializing in estate planning. Laura and her team are artful with individuals with disabilities and their families offering life care planning and financial services, and many more resources that help them plan ahead for their loved one. Laura has offered vital education to our families here at Down Syndrome Innovations previously at our Life Transitions Conference and we are excited to welcome her back.

Child Policy at Education Seminars:

We strive to create a professional learning environment for all adults who attend our educational sessions, and in respect of the speakers providing their expertise to our community. Therefore, the minimum age that one is allowed to attend our conference educational sessions is 13 years old. Other children are not allowed, with the exception of babies in arms (approximately 12 months or younger), who can be quietly cared for by a parent or legal guardian. We ask that parents please use their discretion when deciding whether or not to bring their child to a seminar. If a child is disruptive to other attendees, and the parent or guardian is not voluntarily leaving the room, the parent or guardian will be asked by a staff member to leave the room with the child until the child can quietly return to the session.

Inclusion of Teen and Adult Self-Advocates:

Per caregiver discretion, teen and adult self-advocates are welcome to attend educational sessions with their caregiver. You are welcome to notify DSI staff if your loved one needs accommodation for optimal learning.
