Stronger Minds and Brighter Futures!

Improving emotional well-being and quality of life is a priority within the mission of Down Syndrome Innovations. Join us for this workshop and learn strategies to ensure your loved one, or the people you serve, are living their best lives. Megan DeBoom, Board Certified Behavior Analyst, and Lisa Lind, licensed clinical social worker, will demonstrate strategies for healthy coping and emotional regulation that can be used by members of your family and service providers on your team.

You will walk away with visual supports and ideas that you can implement right away to ensure that you, the ones you love, and the ones you serve, are equipped to manage stress and navigate the challenges of everyday life. Instruction is relevant for supporters of individuals with Down syndrome and other developmental disabilities of all ages and stages.

Topics covered will include, but not limited to:

  • A strengths-based approach to emotional well-being
  • Research and best practices for the ID/DD community
  • Building protective factors for health and wellness
  • Family resiliency and healthy coping
  • Co-regulation of emotions
  • Skills related to managing conflict and relationships
  • Grief, loss, and stressful transitions
  • Self-care and wellness

Child Policy at Education Seminars: We strive to create a professional learning environment for all adults who attend our educational sessions, and in respect of the speakers providing their expertise to our community. Therefore, the minimum age that one is allowed to attend our conference educational sessions is 13 years old. Other children are not allowed, with the exception of babies in arms (approximately 12 months or younger), who can be quietly cared for by a parent or legal guardian. We ask that parents please use their discretion when deciding whether or not to bring their child to a seminar. If a child is disruptive to other attendees, and the parent or guardian is not voluntarily leaving the room, the parent or guardian will be asked by a staff member to leave the room with the child until the child can quietly return to the session.

Inclusion of Teen and Adult Self-Advocates: Per caregiver discretion, teen and adult self-advocates are welcome to attend educational sessions with their caregiver. You are welcome to notify DSI staff if your loved one needs accommodation for optimal learning.
